After a long wait, we finally have the first budget friendly GPU from the Geforce 10 series. Nvidia officially launched the Nvidia Geforce GT 1030 on May 17th, 2017. Its price is similar to that of the AMD Radeon RX 550, but as per the benchmarks, GT 1030 performs a lot better in gaming. I don’t think any upcoming low-budget Graphics Card will be able to compete with GT 1030 for at least this year. We are still not sure that whether or when Nvidia will announce the much anticipated Geforce GT 1040. As the GT 1030 is already launched, we do need the GT 1040 to fill in the void between GT 1030 and GTX 1050.
Before going into the details on how well does Nvidia GT Geforce 1030 performs in games, we will have a look at its specification. Later, we will move on to Benchmarks, Gaming Performance and at last the Review and Final suggestions. So, let us begin with the specs.
|Name||Geforce GT 1030|
|Launch Date||17th May 2017|
|Base Clock Rate||1227MHz|
|Max Clock Rate||1468MHz|
|Processing Power||942 GFLOPS|
As I told earlier, this Graphics Processing Unit was launched on May 17, 2017. Geforce GT 1030 is a Desktop GPU by Nvidia in which 14nm FinFET manufacturing Process is used. It is the newest member of Nvidia Geforce 10 Series and the only budget oriented GPU of that series as of now. It has 2GB GDDR5 memory and is made on the Pascal Architecture by Nvidia. This GPU has 384 CUDA cores clocked at a base frequency of 1227 MHz. The clock rate can go up to 1468 MHz. The memory bandwidth is 48 Gigabytes per second, and its processing power is 942 GFLOPS.
The one of the best thing about GT 1030 is its Thermal Design Power (TDP) which is just 30W, while the TDP of similar budget Graphics Card like AMD Radeon RX 550 is 50W. So, you won’t have to purchase a high power PSU to support the GT 1030. So, if you have an older PC, it is highly unlikely that you’ll need to buy another Power Supply Unit. Its price is just $79, and currently, it outperforms every other Graphics Card in that budget.
First of all, let’s compare the Nvidia’s Geforce GT 1030 with the Intel HD Graphics 530, which is the Integrated Graphics Card for the Intel’s 6th generation Skylake Processors.
In Adobe Premiere Pro, the GT 1030 performs twice as good as the HD 530. In 3D Mark’s Benchmark, the GT 1030 again leads with twice as many points. While Web Browsing and playing casual games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, you can expect 3X the performance.
Comparison vs HD 530 & 630
Let’s move on to the Benchmark Scores of PassMark Software. Let’s compare the scores with Intel Graphics HD 630 and 530. HD 630 is the integrated GPU for 7th generation Desktop Processors while HD 530 belongs to the 6th generation Intel processors.
Just like the scores of 3D Mark, PassMark’s score is also two times more than that of Intel HD 530. Also, there’s only a slight difference between the performance of HD 530 and HD 630. So, if you’re using a Skylake or Kaby Lake Processor with integrated graphics, you should give GT 1030 a try for achieving three times better performance.
Comparison vs. GT 730 and GTX 750 Ti
Geforce GTX 750Ti is still ahead of GT 1030 while the GT 730 performs worse than the HD 530. If you can manage an older GTX 750 Ti, then I would still recommend you to for it over the GT 1030 for obvious reasons. Let’s see if Nvidia launches the Geforce GTX 1040, then it would be interesting to see if it could compete with GTX 750 Ti or not.
In this Gameplay video, RandomGaminginHD played GTA 5, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, The Witcher 3, Dota 2 and Overwatch. Without any doubt, the Nvidia GT 1030 has certainly exceeded our expectations. The benchmarks were good and the gaming performance of Nvidia Geforce GT 1030 is even better! At Full HD Resolution and low preset, you will be able to play the upcoming high-graphics games as well. Yes, it is not too good for serious gaming, but for starters and casual gamers, it is certainly enough. Let’s talk one game after another.
Starting with GTA V at 1080p and medium settings, you’ll manage to get 50-60 fps on average. In Overwatch, you can expect similar fps at high preset and 1920×1080 resolution. Once again in Dota 2, you’ll get around 68 frames per second on average at 1080p resolution. While playing CS: GO at low settings at 1080p, you should attain 160 fps with ease with a minimum of 98 fps. But remember, CSGO is CPU intensive, and you’ll need to have a decent Processor to get better performance. You should at least get a 7th generation Pentium G4560 with the GT 1030. In Witcher 3 at lowest settings and 900p resolution, you’ll manage 40fps on average which can even drop to 16. I’ll recommend you to lower the resolution to 720p in games where you’re not able to manage above 40-45 fps on average.
It seems like Nvidia just waited for the right opportunity and launched the GT 1030 in less than a month after the launch of RX 550. They cleverly priced it the same as the RX 550 and it delivers a lot better gaming experience compared to the Radeon RX 550. So, if anyone of you were planning on buying a low-budget GPU, the Geforce 1030 will be the best choice. However, if you find it okay to purchase an old and/or used GPU, then you can still consider the Nvidia Geforce GTX 750 Ti. Even after over 3 years since its launch, the GTX 750 Ti leads all the way. If we see the benchmarks, the GTX 750 Ti is almost 1.7X faster than the GT 1030. While gaming, you can expect 5-10 FPS higher in GTX 750 Ti.
So, if you can manage an old GTX 750 Ti, I’ll recommend it over the GT 1030. But if you’re looking for a new GPU, then GT 1030 will be the answer. That’s it for our Nvidia Geforce GT 1030 review. Hope you liked it and it helps you out in choosing the right GPU for your PC. Here is the comparison of GT 1030 with the AMD Radeon RX 550.
